TT Cinema: Snatch Screening w/ East London Liquor Company
Our collaboration with the good people at East London Liquor Company continues on further into July with a screening of another British gangster film staple, Snatch.
Featuring a star-studded cast, and perhaps the most debatable Irish accent in the history of film courtesy of Brad Pitt, Guy Ritchie’s second ever feature film is rightly regarded as a cult-classic in the category of crime comedy flicks.
The film centres around two intertwined plots – one dealing with the international search for a stolen diamond of incredible value, the other with a small-time boxing promoter (Jason Statham) who finds himself undet the thumb of a ruthless gangster (Alan Ford) who is ready and willing to have his subordinates carry out severe and sadistic acts of violence – or face the inevitable consequences.
Snatch introduces is to a plethora of unforgettable characters, including Brad Pitt as an Irish Traveller named “One Punch” Mickey O’Neil, arms dealer Boris “the Blade” Yurinov, and professional thief and gambling addict Franky “Four Fingers”, played artfully by Benicio Del Toro.
Upon its release, the film split critics – many of whom questioned the undeniable similarities it shared with Ritchie’s first feature Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Despite this, the short, snappy dialogue, fast-paced plot, talented cast, and effortlessly stylish camerawork has earned Snatch a loyal cult-following. And we count ourselves as proud members.
And, as always, there’ll be some liquid accompaniments to look forwards to. We’ll be featuring East London Liquor Co’s Batch No.1 gin in each of the classic cocktails we’ll be serving out on the night to celebrate their 5th birthday in style.
