TT Cinema: Stand By Me Screening

21st May

Next up on our big screen is a screening of Rob Reiner’s film adaptation of Stephen King’s classic tale of friendship, boyhood, and coming of age – Stand By Me.

The film stars River Phoenix, Corey Feldman, Jerry O’Connell, and Wil Wheaton as four Oregon boys who, upon hearing about a stranger being accidentally killed near their rural homes, embark upon an adventure that evolves into a defining event in their young lives.

Along the way they encounter strange junk men, a marsh full of leeches, runaway trains, and even themselves – as they learn more and more about each others’ very different home lives.

Although the film split critics upon its initial release, that didn’t stop it from scooping numerous awards and being nominated for multiple Golden Globes and an Oscar and – in the years that followed – becoming one of the most instantly recognisable movies of the decade.

The film is worth a watch simply for its enigmatic, nostalgic soundtrack – one which propelled Ben E. King’s moderately successful track “Stand By Me” back into the billboard top 10, over a quarter century after it was first recorded.

It is now rightly recognised as a timeless cult classic that sits right atop the apex of the ’80s kids’ movie boom.

We’ll be sorting the drinks for the evening as tradition dictates, with our expert bar team concocting a menu of complimentary cocktails for guests to sip upon as they enjoy the visual spectacle.

Tickets are £15 for one, or £20 for a pair when you type in the code ‘gordie’ at checkout. Complimentary cocktail and free popcorn included as standard.
