Genius Month: Good Will Hunting Screening

January 14th

This January TT Cinema is bringing you a lineup of genius themed movies. Our Cellar Bar has produced a brand new menu celebrating the greatest inventors, engineers, scientists and genius musicians throughout history, so we’re screening some ingenious films to go along side.

To get things started we’re showing Good Will Hunting on January 14th. How do you like them apples? The plot follows the journey of Boston-based janitor, Will Hunting (Matt Damon), from brawling on the streets and assaulting police officers to solving the worlds hardest equations.

Will is discovered by mathematics professor Gerald Lambeau after he posts a question for his students to solve. Having solved the question whilst mopping the floors at MIT, Will runs from the professor to go drinking with his buddies. The next day during a fight, Will assaults a police officer. Lambeau watches the court case and makes a plea to the judge.

Having been let off his jail time in exchange for therapy sessions and agreeing to be kept under the supervision of the professor, Will finds himself talking to Dr. Sean Maguire (Robbin Williams). Both men begin calling each other out on their self-destructive behaviours.

Struggling for a solution, Will turns to his best friend Chuckie (Ben Affleck) who tells him he is wasting his potential.  Trying to juggle his loyalty to his friends, his new girlfriend, and the chance for a better life, Will has a big decision to make.

Good Will Hunting is the classic tale of reinvention and renewal – what better way to start the new year and reaffirm those New Year Resolutions?

"Most days I wish I'd never met you 'cause then I could sleep at night. I didn't have to walk around with the knowledge that there was someone like you out there. I didn't have to watch you throw it all away."
