Tequila Ocho Añejo is aged in former American Whiskey barrels for 12 months. Ocho Añejo manages to balance delicate agave notes and sweet vanillin and caramel notes from the white oak barrels. All of Ocho’s tequilas are 100% additive-free, meaning the light colour of the liquid is the natural colour after ageing. All agaves used for Ocho are Single Estate (owned by the Camarena family) and are harvested later than average, resulting in high sugar and high acidity levels.
Appearance: Pale straw.
Nose: Gardenia blossoms, lime zest and milk chocolate.
Taste: Subtle green peppercorns leading to cacao nibs and marzipan.
Finish: Cinnamon and honey with bitter cocoa notes.
Overall: Añejo tequila that retains the agaves fresher characters.
Ocho Añejo is a smooth sipper perfect as a postprandial tipple or as a winter warmer to enjoy by the fire. It is also one of the lightest-aged Añejos on the market, meaning it retains its agave flavour, making it the ideal gift for any tequila lover.
If the person you’re buying for is a fan of the Ocho Añejo you could also try Fortaleza Añejo or Tapatio Anjeo.
Tequila Ocho is the first ever tequila (and one of the few spirits in the world) to designate the specific field from which the agaves were sourced, as well as the year of harvest. Each batch of Ocho uses agaves harvested from just one single field at a time (think single-vineyard wines), demonstrating the existence of terroir in agave growing and tequila production. Ocho is the brainchild of Tomas Estes (Official Tequila Ambassador to the EU) and Carlos Camarena (third generation Master Distiller at La Alteña, Carlos is one of the most respected Master Distillers in Mexico). Ocho uses traditional processes that would have been similar to the methods used by Carlos’s grandfather in 1937 when the distillery was founded. It is a 100% agave tequila, and is also 100% additive-free; each and every bottle of Ocho produced contains only 3 ingredients: blue agave, natural spring water, and yeast.
