A harmony of peat, sea, spice and sweetness all finely tuned in your glass. The Talisker 18 is like seeing a grown-up version of the 10-year old that not only lived up to its expectations but went above and beyond. It is of no surprise that this whisky has been awarded so highly, the smoke and spice have matured into more complex flavours and are balanced by elegant sweeter notes of fruit and flowers.
Appearance: Deep amber.
Nose: Burnt heather, wet coastal grasses and singed orange peel.
Taste: Black Jacks, smoked fish, and fiery gingerbread.
Finish: Tobacco and toasted almonds with a sweet, warm cinnamon finish.
Overall: Complex flavours across the board, yet somehow all brought together in style with an almost effortless fashion.
Obviously, if the person you are buying for enjoys the Talisker 10 you will not disappoint with this beauty. With a slightly higher price tag, the Talisker 18 is well worth pushing the boat out for. In terms of value, they are definitely delivering. Go on, treat yourself.
If the person you’re buying for is a fan of the Talisker 18, you could also try Bowmore 15 or Octomore Masterclass 8.1.
The malt that comes from Talisker is unique. Medium peated, but with the added complexity of a water source that has run through peat itself. There’s a lot of reflux taking place in the tall stills and talisker also use a worm tub in cold water to condense. This results in a sulphury new make that adds weight to the whisky. Maturation is mostly in refill and rejuvenated casks.
