Description

FULL DESCRIPTION
In continuing the tradition of the original Mitcher’s Whiskey, only the finest American corn, rye and malted barley are used in the mashbill for Mitcher’s Unblended American Whiskey. This whiskey is aged in used, toasted, charred, American white oak casks for 5 to 8 years. These casks previously contained Mitcher’s 10-Year-Old Single Barrel Bourbon. This is done to achieve a unique and rich profile, different to bourbon and rye whiskey, which must be aged in new oak barrels.

TASTING NOTES
Appearance: Deep Amber.
Nose: Stone fruits and toasted brioche.
Taste: Vanilla and cinnamon with plenty of butterscotch.
Finish: The sweetness leads to notes of leather and tobacco.
Overall: Easy drinking whiskey packed full of character.

Connoisseur

The reason this whiskey is called “American whiskey” as opposed to “bourbon” is because of the barrels. Bourbon must be aged in new charred white American oak barrels and this one is aged in barrels that have previously been used to age bourbon, or “bourbon-soaked” as the brand likes to say. The word “unblended” refers to the fact that it does not contain neutral grain spirit.

DISTILLERY
Mitcher’s Shively Distillery

ABOUT THE DISTILLERY
Michter’s originally was made in Pennsylvania at the oldest registered distillery in America. However turbulent times in the American whiskey world forced the brand to file for bankruptcy in 1989. The brand was revived in the 1990s by Joe Magliocco and Richard Newman. They began buying single casks from all over Kentucky and selling it under the Michter’s name and then began contract distilling at various distilleries around Kentucky to produce the Michter’s that we have today. The master distillers Willie Pratt and Pam Heilman have over 40 years of distilling knowledge after working at some of the biggest distilleries in the US. Currently, Michter’s is producing in Shively, just outside Louisville, Kentucky.
