Twisted Mezcal Margaritas

By TT Liquor

We think there’s no better way to make mezcal sing than in a stripped-back mezcal margarita.
Mezcal’s best friend is lime juice; the sharp tang of the fruit beautifully balances the warm, earthy depth and honey-sweetness of the mezcal.
Here is a recipe for a classic mezcal marg, as well as a few twists for you to try out.

Ingredients

50ml Koch Mezcal Ensamble

25ml Lime Juice

15-20ml Syrup of your choice

History

Mezcal is a spirit that has seen a swift and sustained rise to popularity in recent years. The older, stronger, more traditional big brother to tequila, this agave-based spirit varies hugely in flavour and strength from brand to brand but is always guaranteed to pack a punch in both departments.

We think there’s no better way to make mezcal sing than in a stripped-back mezcal margarita. Mezcal’s best friend is lime juice, the sharp tang of the fruit, beautifully balances the warm, earthy depth and honey-sweetness of the mezcal and the drink is completed with a squeeze of agave syrup, a natural sweetener derived from the same plant as the spirit itself.

To cover this gorgeous mixture in too many additives or fruit flavours would serve only to hide the distinct and moreish flavour of the mezcal, but that’s not to say that this simple recipe can’t be played with; by swapping the agave for a flavoured syrup, either bought, or better still, handmade, we can add an extra element of sensation to this already fabulous cocktail.
