This elegant drink is a bonafide classic; invented at one of the bastions of cocktail creation; Harry’s New York Bar in Paris, this indulgent cocktail is an extravagant twist on the classic Tom Collins.

This subtle but sumptuous cocktail oozes simplicity and style and is perfect all year round at any time of day or occasion.

Ingredients

35ml Gin

25ml lemon juice

10ml sugar syrup

Splash of champagne or sparkling wine

Garnished with a lemon twist.

Method

In a shaker or Boston glass, combine the gin, lemon juice, and sugar syrup.

Fill the shaker with cubed ice, seal and shake vigorously for 10 – 12 seconds.

Double strain into a chilled champagne flute, top with sparkling wine, and garnish with a twist of lemon.

Serve and enjoy!

History

Starting as its predecessor does, with a simple sour made of gin, lemon juice, and sugar syrup, where the Tom Collins would use a splash of soda, the French 75 is topped luxuriously with a healthy glug of champagne (though any sparkling wine of your choice would work just as well).
