TT Cinema: The Grand Budapest Hotel Special Birthday Screening
April 30 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm£15
Wes Anderson is one of our all-time favourite directors thanks to his iconic visionary style and quirky characters, so we thought we’d mark the eve of his 50th birthday with a screening of perhaps his most beautiful work yet – The Grand Budapest Hotel.
Pastel-perfect in almost every way, this comedic yet surprisingly thoughtful caper recounts the adventures of Gustave H (Ralph Fiennes), a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel between the wars, and Zero Moustafa (Tony Revolori), the lobby boy who becomes his most trusted friend.
The story involves the theft and recovery of a priceless Renaissance painting and the battle for an enormous family fortune — all against the back-drop of a suddenly and dramatically changing Continent.
Upon its release, The Grand Budapest Hotel was a resounding critical and box office success, reaching number one in multiple countries including here in the UK, where it remains Anderson’s most successful film to date.
It also scooped up multiple awards, including – predictably – the Oscar for best costume and production design, as well as best original score for long-term collaborator Alexandre Desplat’s eclectic, distinctly European soundtrack.
A feast for both eyes and ears, we figured there could be no better celebration of Anderson’s art as he approaches the big 5-0 than his most accomplished work to date.
Tastebuds will also be well catered for, with out dedicated bar team creating a bespoke Anderson-inspired cocktail menu for you to get acquainted with while you sit back and enjoy. Oh, and there’ll be free popcorn courtesy of the good people at PROPERCORN to satisfy those snack seekers among us.
Tickets are £15 for the one, or £20 for a pair when using the code ‘zero’ at checkout. Complimentary cocktail included as tradition dictates.
