TT Cinema: L.A. Confidential Screening
September 3 @ 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm£15
We’re kicking off September in our cinema room with a screening of Curtis Hanson’s all-time classic crime mystery, LA Confidential.
The plot – set in the glittering and idealised surroundings of early 50s Hollywood, and based on the best-selling novel by James Ellroy – centres around three policemen, each with their own motives and obsessions, as they tackle the corruption surrounding an unsolved murder at a downtown LA coffee shop.
Detective Lieutenant Exley (Guy Pearce), the son of a murdered detective, is out to avenge his father’s death. The ex-partner of Office White (Russell Crowe), implicated in a scandal rooted out by Eley, was one of the victims, while the ruthless Sergeant Vincennes (Kevin Spacey) feeds classified information to a tabloid magnate (Danny DeVito).
The stage is thus set for a tangled and sticky web of violence and betrayal, organised crime against organised corruption, and endless juicy intrigue. In other words, the perfect popcorn-friendly thrill ride.
L.A. Confidential was a resounding box office and critical success upon its release in 1997, scooping up two Academy Awards (Kim Basinger won Best Supporting Actress, while Brian Helgeland won the Best Adapted Screenplay) and it is now widely regarded as a benchmark for the genre, and for adapted screenplays as a whole.
Come and get lost in the seedy underbelly of Hollywood with a complimentary cocktail in hand thanks our expert bar team. Plus there’ll be free snacks courtesy of the guys at PROPERCORN to keep you going.
Tickets are £15 for one, or £20 for a pair when you use the code ‘LA’ at checkout.
