TT Cinema: Hidden Figures Screening
March 10 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm£15
Our second screening of March is designed with International Women’s Day in mind, and celebrates overlooked – and crucial – female contributions from a pivotal moment in American history.
Adapted from a book of the same name published the same year, the film visually outlines the incredible untold story of Katherine G. Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe) – brilliant African-American mathematicians plying their trade at NASA.
In their time there, they served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, a stunning achievement that restored the nation’s confidence, turned around the Space Race, and galvanized the world. The visionary trio crossed all gender and race lines to inspire generations to dream big.
Also featuring Kevin Costner, Kirsten Dunst, Jim Parsons, Glen Powell, and Mahershala Ali in supporting roles, the film was released back in 2016 to widespread critical acclaim. Hidden Figures picked up three Oscar nominations, including for the lucrative Best Picture award, two Golden Globes, and a BAFTA.
The story is recounted has also left an enduring mark on the political and historical memory of America itself – with the three leading ladies awarded Congressional Gold Medals in November of last year in recognition of their crucial role in shaping American history.
All in all, a fitting story of powerful, female-powered inspiration to mark the 110th International Women’s Day. Tickets for this are available at £15 a head, or £20 for a pair when you use the code ‘eachforequal’ at checkout.
