TT Cinema: Milk Screening w/ Black Cow Vodka
September 24 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm£15
We’re capping off our September screening schedule in style, teaming up with our friends at Black Cow Vodka to put on Gus Van Sant’s critically acclaimed romantic drama, Milk.
Based off real events, and based around the groundbreaking career of Harvey Milk (Sean Penn) during the tumultuous political atmosphere of late 1970s San Francisco, the plot follows his attempt to forge coalitions across the political spectrum in his struggle for gay rights.
During the last eight years of his life, while living in New York City, he turns 40. Looking for more purpose, he and his lover Scott Smith (James Franco) relocate to San Francisco, where they found a small business, Castro Camera, in the heart of a working-class neighborhood.
When Milk is elected supervisor for the newly zoned District 5, he tries to coordinate his efforts with those of another newly elected supervisor, Dan White (Josh Brolin). But as White and Milk’s political agendas increasingly diverge, their personal destinies tragically converge.
Upon its release in 2008, the film was a resounding commercial and critical success, being nominated for eight Academy Awards, four BAFTAs and many more besides.
And what better way to enjoy a masterful biopic than with a Black Cow Vodka cocktail in hand? Their good stuff is made on a dairy farm using the leftover whey (hence the ‘Black Cow’), so the connection is plain for all to see. Plus there’ll be free snacks throughout courtesy of the guys at PROPERCORN to keep you going.
Tickets are £15 for one, or £20 for a pair when you use the code ‘milk’ at checkout.
