Kino Vino | Bridges of Istanbul with Chef Melek Erdal

We’re excited to once again welcome film-and-supper club specialists, Kino Vino, to TT Liquor for another unique night of film and food to cap off the summer. 

This time we’ll be joined by Kurdish chef and home-grown Hackney-ite, Melek Erdal, who’ll be serving an exciting menu inspired by the magical city of her birth, Istanbul.

From being born in Turkey, to a Kurdish family, to growing up in the hustle of Hackney, Melek Erdal has always had a love for food which has grown and evolved thanks to her diverse and varied background and upbringing. With a style and flavour rooted firmly in her Kurdish and Turkish heritage, Erdal has focused on using food as a way to bring people together and communicate culture and history.

Erdal opened the celebrated Café Route in Dalston in 2013, since then she’s taught cookery masterclasses, made films, written about food culture and done work for both local and international organisations including Made in Hackney and Cook for Syria.

Her incredible menu aims to transport guests to the depths of Istanbul, featuring dishes and ingredients that define the city, and as with any supper club event at TT, our skilled bar team will be providing bespoke cocktails created especially for the evening.

Before dinner, guests will be treated to a special screening of critically acclaimed 2004 punk romance Head On, a film centred around Hamburg’s Turkish community, which explores cultural identity and follows one man’s journey of rediscovery as it leads him to Istanbul.
